Below you will find screenshots and little tidbits about the design work I've done, as well as links to the finished products. Thumbnails will open up in a new window.

This customer needed a temparary contact page designed and set up for use while the actual design was being created. I spent some time looking around for shopping cart scripts that would be easy to customize, with a simple admin panel/backend, that didn't cost very much. Apparently, those are hard to come by! ZenCart was very confusing from both a design and user standpoint; other scripts were a little too expensive. Eventually I discovered Joomla, a content management script (CSM), which had several modules including a shopping cart one! VirtueMart ended up working out rather well.

She wanted something that conveyed the cleanliness and fresh feelings that handmade soaps evoke, so we choose a seafoam green for the main color scheme. After I had the skeletal structure of the site designed, the customer picked out several stock photos to use in the upper left corner. These pictures are randomly generated each time a page is loaded; I believe there are 8 different images. I'm quite pleased with how this design came out, especially considering it was a new experience for me with Joomla.

Shabbycats.com

Shabby Cats Contact page Customer: Shabby Cats Jewelry
Services: Contact page; Joomla install and setup; Page design; Shopping cart implementation
Status: Contact page complete; Joomla install and design complete; not released to web

The above customer decided she was so happy with how the Soaps & Scents website came out that she requested for me to work on one for her jewelry side-project. Since Joomla worked out so well last time (and both she and I were familiar with it), we decided to use it and VirtueMart again. However, since this is a side project and not the main focus of her business, the cart features have been disabled; there's a handy little "Catalogue" button in VirtueMart's preferences. Only the contact page is available currently. The full site design is mostly completed; waiting for the customer to finish adding products before going live.

I wanted to make use of the bright colors currently being used on the labels for the jewelry, and to capture her motto of "fun and funky." I think I managed to do this, and add a bit of cuteness with the dotted border of the table.

PainterMoon.com

Painter Moon Full site Painter Moon business card Customer: Painter Moon
Services: Logo recreation; Web page design; mySQL database; business card, labels, and table sign design
Status: Designs have been finalized; working on mySQL database

This project has been one of my fullest service so far. This customer needed complete design of the web page, business cards, labels, and a table sign; possibility of other design needs in the future, such as letterhead. This project has also pushed alot of my bounds with SQL and databases. Since the intent was to have more of a catalogue site, but with a rather flexible design, it soon became apparent that using Joomla/VirtueMart wasn't going to be efficient. Instead, I'm having to experiment with creating mySQL databases from scratch, and writing php to make use of said databases. Needless to say, this is taking some time. Fortunately this customer isn't in an incredible hurry, as very little of her stock of jewelry has been inventoried or photographed. I believe this will be my most complex back-end project to date, and so far I'm proud of how things are shaping up.
